RubyLINE Range: Ruby measurement systems

We can offer two types of optical system to measure optically the pressure based on the fluorescence of Ruby (*): Optiprexx PLS and RubyLUX.

(*) Ruby spheres and Ruby powder can be found in the Consumables & Spares section.

What are the main differences between the Optiprexx PLS and RubyLUX?

  • The PLS is a stand-alone system whereas the RubyLUX may require a microscope (which we can supply as well) for operation.
  • The PLS has a laser interlock system whereas the RubyLUX does not. This means that as a laser system the PLS is type I and the RubyLUX is type III. As such, to run the latter you need to have established laser precautions/procedures in place.
  • The PLS is more ‘plug and play’ – one just needs to mount the DAC to the cell platform and perform the measurements. The RubyLUX may require some adjustment to the optics – especially if not supplied with the microscope of our choice.
  • The Optiprexx PLS – Camera is an accessory to the Optiprexx PLS.
  • Finally the RubyLUX has the option of a breadboard mounting including a DAC XYZ stage making this system then very similar to a PLS.
