Diacell® Bragg-Mini

X-ray Spectroscopy, Pmax = 50 GPa, T = 300 K, WD = 7.5 mm, A = 85°
  • The Diacell® Bragg-Mini is a Merrill-Basset type of cell but engineered in order to accommodate Boehler-Almax anvils
  • This cell is particularly well suited for X-ray experiments as it enables diffraction measurements with high transmission factor and very low background
  • The Diacell® Bragg-Mini can easily be mounted onto a goniometer head as it comes supplied with a mounting plate
  • Maximum pressure of up to above 20 GPa are achievable with the Diacell® Bragg Mini
  • A variant offering a working distance of 5.50 mm on the underside of the cell is available, the short WD Bragg-Mini.

Description

The Diacell® Bragg Mini is a simple to use diamond anvil cell based on the classical design of a Merrill Bassett-style diamond anvil cell. However, it was engineered to accommodate the Boehler-Almax conical anvil design, enabling larger axial aperture up to 85 degrees.

Unlike most of the other Diacell® DACs, there is no provision for tilt adjustment of the upper anvil relative to the lower anvil. The parallelism of the two culet faces is ensured by the high accuracy of the machining. Moreover, on the lower plate, are precisely mounted guiding rods, along which the upper triangular plate is guided to ensure a smooth displacement. The very smooth and tight fit between the plates ensures the stability of diamond anvils alignment.

It is recommended that anvils for this cell have culets of at least 0.50 mm. The maximum pressure of the Bragg-Mini is ~ 30 GPa with 0.50 mm anvils.

This DAC is used for X-ray work and it can easily be mounted on goniometer heads.

Of course, it can also be used for other spectroscopic studies.

FAQs

What is the maximum pressure I can achieve with the One20DAC and a given culet size?

Culet size (µm) 200 300 400 500 600 800 1000
Pmax (GPa) (*) N/A 74 48 31 22 12 8

(*) The Pmax values are only indicative. The maximum pressure achievable with a DAC is influenced by many others experimental parameters, like the gasket characteristics (material, thickness and hole size) or the pressure transmitting medium.
